The Area 19 Horse Trial Qualifiers took place on Sunday 23rd June at St Leonards, near Launceston. The event was well organised and hosted by Kathryn and Andy Reeves with a new cross country course buit this year.
Unfortunately we were unable to field two complete teams due to the usual problems with horses, however this did not hold us back in the end. Morwenna Barnicoat, Natalie Levens and Sarah Fletcher were competing in the 100cm and 90cm and had very early starts due to the dressage times. This meant a wake up call at 04.00hrs! Those in the 80cm class had a much more civilised start to the day with that class not starting until midday.
The new cross country course was up to height, with a range of different fences and the going was good. Morwenna ran in the 100cm with Archie and did well and finished in 11th place.
This year the teams ran together in running order which was great for watching everyone and being able to support each other. In the 90cm class the team of Natalie, Morwenna and Sarah finished in a credible 8th place.
In the 80cm class, the team spirit continued and with seven riders in two teams, it was a busy time for the helpers as we ran one after another. Jess Robson and Heather Child had a great day and finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in their arenas. Margaret Latham also did well and finished in 5th place with Dawn Evans in 7th. Chrissie Hogg had an educational run and unfortunately Peter Ramsey's horse lost a shoe and he was unable to complete.Whilst waiting for the results we realised that we were in a good team position and then we were thrilled to learn that with Jess and Heather's strong placings and myself in 7th place we had won the team section. On top of this, the team of Margaret, Chrissie, Dawn and Peter finished in 5th place.
Thanks must go to our supporters and helpers throughout the day. Sian Barnicoat helped all day as Team Manager and Jackie Thomson and Anne Richardson as official helpers, We also had lots of supporters including Team Dyer, Lauren Hatton and team husbands. Without this help we could not take part so big thanks to all.
Looking forward to the Championships in August and all supporters welcome.
Thanks to Jess Robson & Tony Hogg for the extensive images of the day.
