Sunday 22nd June was the day for the Threewaters Streamers endurance team to take part in the RC teams competition - this time at the Boconnoc Ride.
We had bad luck on our previous attempt at Wadebridge and priority was to get at least 3 members round successfully. Our team was Dee Hall (Firefly Imp) Natalie Levens (My Mounshadow) Gill Plumbley (Mirjana) and Catherine Wood (Incas Gold). Honorary team members (too young to count!) were Lauren Treseder and Paddy. Our noble crew without whom we would most certainly have struggled, were Natalies husband and son Mark and Josh. Our not so noble crew was Jazz the K9 who despite extensive training and bribery, just flatly refused to carry and refill the slosh bottles when requested - something about dogs not being expected to perform such menial tasks when he was young was indicated!
A beautiful ride through the grounds and forestry of the private estate surrounding Boconnoc house. Some entertaining moments too when Gills horse decided that the small barriers into the forestry were actually massive xc jumps! (Natalie nearly fell of laughing at this point!) - and Fly decided that the duty of the lead horse was to shy impressively at the ferocious horse eating leaves lurking everywhere! But it was hot, hot, hot and the horse flies were out in force. Despite this all four riding members (plus Lauren and Paddy) completed and passed the veterinary inspection at the end of the 20 mile loop.
Our score was probably not good enough to put us at the top of the league table but on a day when many were vetted out due to high pulse rates (result of the heat) we did really well with our 100% completion rate.
So an encouraging day - onwards and upwards. It would be great to try again and hopefully, improve our score. Penpont on 27th July sounds good (ride entirely on Bodmin moor)- anyone up for it?
More team members are always very welcome.
